Public composting workshop!

Here is the article from a weekly in Westerville area:

The public has an opportunity to learn all about composting thanks to the Friends of Alum Creek & Tributaries.

FACT will present a public composting workshop from 7 to 8 p.m. next Wednesday, Feb. 24 at the Genoa Township Hall, 5111 S. Old 3C Highway.

Teaching the workshop will be Dave Hohmann, FACT president, and the class will provide guidance on the different types of composting, how to begin and avoid common problems.

Participants will receive a 1-cubic-yard compost bin and reference guide valued at more than $40. According to a press release, the discounted workshop fee is made possible through a Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio General grant.

The event is advertised as a chance to turn leaves and grass, that are normally left for road-side collection, into compost that will help grow flower and vegetable gardens. Residents who compost also will help improve the water quality of Alum Creek by not using chemicals.

Seating is limited and an advance registration fee is $10 per person for FACT members and $15 for nonmembers. Registration at the door is $20. To register, mail a check payable to FACT along with your contact information to: FACT, 2820 Watkins Road, Columbus, OH 43207.

To RSVP, contact FACT at 614-231-9134 or by email at compost@friendsofalumcreek.org. For more information visit friendsofalumcreek.org.
